What is SNF Chemical
Sodium naphthalene sulfonate formaldehyde (SNF/PNS/FND/NSF), also called naphthalene sulfonate formaldehyde condensate, poly naphthalene sulfonate, sulphonated naphthalene formaldehyde, SNF superplasticizer, is commonly referred to as a superplasticizer for concrete. It is the light brown powder in appearance. And SNF superplasticizer has a strong dispersion effect on cement particles, and the water reduction rate can reach 15-25%. Therefore, sodium naphthalene is especially suitable for the preparation of high-strength concrete, steam-cured concrete, fluid concrete, impermeable concrete, waterproof concrete, plasticized concrete, steel bars and prestressed reinforced concrete.
SNF superplasticizer can be widely used for various concrete projects such as railways, highways, bridges, hydropower, ports, docks, industrial and civil buildings, prefabricated components, and concrete with sodium sulfate content requirements. The naphthalene sulfonate formaldehyde condensate is made of naphthalene, sulfuric acid, formaldehyde and liquid base, and undergoes a series of reactions such as sulfonation, hydrolysis, condensation and neutralization, and then dried into SNF powder. Of course, different models of naphthalene sulfonate powder also have different technical specifications.
It should be emphasized that SNF powder has good compatibility with other admixtures. It can be used in combination with admixtures such as retarders, air entraining agents, expansive agents, and active admixtures such as fly ash to formulate concrete admixture composite products with specific properties according to different engineering requirements and construction conditions.
Main Applications of Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate
(1) Construction Field
- The sodium naphthalene sulfonate formaldehyde condensate is a highly efficient water reducer that can be widely used in concrete. It can significantly reduce the amount of mixing water without affecting the strength of concrete, improve the fluidity and pumpability of concrete, and make concrete easy to construct.
- The naphthalene superplasticizer can improve the workability of concrete, reduce the segregation and bleeding of concrete during mixing, transportation, and pouring, and improve the density and uniformity of concrete.
- SNF superplasticizer helps to improve the strength and durability of concrete. By reducing the pores and cracks in concrete, reducing water penetration and erosion, the service life of concrete structures can be extended.
- Sodium naphthalene superplasticizer can also improve the performance of cement. It can promote the hydration reaction of cement and improve the early and late strength of cement. At the same time, sodium naphthalene sulphonate can also reduce the water consumption of cement standard consistency, improve the fluidity and water retention of cement, and improve the construction performance of concrete.
(2) Industrial Field. In the dye industry, sodium naphthalene formaldehyde can be used as a dispersant to evenly disperse dye particles in water or other solvents, prevent dye particles from agglomerating, and improve the stability and dyeing effect of the dye. It also helps to improve the dye uptake and dyeing uniformity of the dye and reduce the color spots and color flowers during the dyeing process.
(3) Other Fields
- Ceramic industry. In ceramic production, sodium naphthalene sulfonate condensate can be used as a grinding aid and dispersant to improve the grinding efficiency and dispersibility of ceramic raw materials and improve the quality of ceramic products. It helps to reduce the firing temperature of ceramic products and save energy.
- Papermaking industry. The naphthalene sulfonate formaldehyde is used for sizing and strengthening of paper to improve the strength and water resistance of paper. It can improve the surface properties of paper and improve the printing suitability of paper.
- Pesticide adjuvant. As an adjuvant, sodium naphthalene can improve the dispersibility and stability of pesticides, so that pesticides can better exert their efficacy.
